We have to be cruel. We have to regain a clear conscience to be cruel.
Adolf Hitler.

Adolf Hitler was a German politician who served as leader of the Nazi Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei; NSDAP), Reich Chancellor (from 1933 to 1945) and Führer ("leader") of Nazi Germany from 1934 until 1945.

As dictator of the German Reich, Hitler was the main instigator of World War II in Europe and a central figure in the Holocaust.

Powers and Abilities

Hitler was born in Austria, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and raised in the city of Linz. Moved to Germany in 1913 and served with distinction in the German army during World War I. He joined the German Workers' Party, the precursor to the Nazi Party, in 1919, and became its leader in 1921. In 1923, he organized a coup d'état in Munich to try to seize power.

The failed coup resulted in Hitler's arrest. While in prison, he dictated his first literary work, his autobiography and political manifesto, Mein Kampf ("My Struggle"). When he was released from jail in 1924, Hitler gained popular support across Germany with his strong opposition to the Treaty of Versailles and promoted his ideas of pan-Germanism, anti-Semitism and anti-communism with his charisma and strong propaganda. He often criticized the capitalist and communist systems as being part of a Jewish conspiracy.

In 1933, the Nazi Party became the largest elected party in the Reichstag, with its leader, Adolf Hitler, being appointed Chancellor of Germany on January 30 of the same year. After new elections, won by his coalition, Parliament passed the Enabling Act of 1933, which began the process of transforming the Weimar Republic into Nazi Germany, a totalitarian and autocratic one-party dictatorship of national socialist ideology. Hitler preached the elimination of Jews from Germany and the establishment of a New Order to combat what he saw as "post-World War I injustices" in a Europe dominated by the British and French.
