I am Atum when he was alone in Nun, I am Ra when he dawned, when he began to rule that which he had made.
Ra.

Ra, also known as Atum-Ra, Amun-Ra, the God of the Sun, Head of the Egyptian Pantheon, and the Primeval God of the Sun, is the primeval deity and progenitor of the Sun in all its radiance, that is, it represents the sun in all its manifestations, morning, noon, dusk and night, at all times of the year, with all other solar gods of all Pantheons being in a sense aspects of him.

Overview[]

The sun was the most important deity for the Egyptians, there being a specific god for each stage of the sun in Heaven, with all of them being aspects of Ra, the sun itself. In Egyptian myths, Ra walked through the skies all day long, with the end of the day descending to the other side of the world to battle the serpent of chaos, Apep.

The Egyptians then feared the night because they were without the protection of Ra because he would be fighting Apep. Whenever the sun rose again, it meant that Ra had defeated Apep again.

Yet, there was a day when Ra did not defeat Apep. That day was during the Ten Plagues of Egypt, more specifically the Ninth Plague, when the sun was at its brightest and then, suddenly, thick darkness came and covered the sun. This was a great humiliation for the Egyptian gods, as the god Ra had hidden behind darkness.

Appearance[]

Ra has many different forms, but his most common form was that of a hawk or muscular man with a hawk's head. Its true form is the Sun itself, with Ra becoming a variant of the central star of Earth's solar system, but with a will of its own. In this form, Ra is an enormous sphere of plasma and hot gas 1.5 million kilometers in diameter. Ra can also change his shape to that of the solar disk, appearing as a flat stellar disk.

Being the very concept of personified Sun, Ra exists simultaneously in several universes where the sun exists.

Personality[]

Power and Abilities[]

As a former king of the gods and the central star of the Solar System, Ra is one of the most powerful gods to ever exist. The only entities of similar power were deities of void such as his uncle and fellow planetary gods such as Dʰéǵʰōm. Even when a portion of his power was taken by Isis, his candle light still shined just as bright for thousands upon millions of years.

  • Fusion: Ra has used the ability of fusing with other gods to not only gain worship but also to gain strength.
    • Shedet-Ra-Horus: Shedet-Ra-Horus, also known as Shedet-Re-Horus, is a fusion of the most powerful deities in the Egyptian pantheon (aside from Isis), it is a fusion of Sobek, Ra, and Horus (Shedet being a title of Sobek). It has never actually been seen by anyone, not even the gods themselves. There is a possibility that this is the form the three gods will take if they participated in The Final Conflict.

History[]

Origin[]

After the Primeval Wars had come to an end, many of the primordials that fought were allowed to settle down in the newly created universe. The goddess Mehet-Weret was no different, as she decided to finally give birth to her luminary child, that child being Ra. Ra's umbilical cord turned out to had been a living being with a separate conscious from Ra, and when it was cut off it was given the name "Apep".

Apep was crowned the king of the gods, which was unfortunate for the other gods as he decided his first rule as king was to slow down creation. Ra became furious from this decision, and challenged Apep's rule over the cosmos. This was an easy task for Ra, as Apep didn't have any limbs, so Ra assumed his kingship from his brother. Once the creation of everything was finished, the god Atum was subsumed into Ra.

Creation[]

After Ra fused with Atum and the creation of the physical world began, Ra birthed many children all on his own, to list them all would be tiresome and redundant though the most important of children would be Tefnut and Shu from his spittle. Along with these children, Ra emanated a great star known as the Sun.

  • Ra lost Tefnut and Shu and when he found them he cried humans
  • Ra fought with Tefnut
  • Ra was given Egypt by God after Dyēus was defeated
  • Ra gave Sol permission to rule the Sun
  • Ra heard a prophecy that a child of Geb and Nut would become the new ruler of Egypt and forbid the baby from being born on one of the three-hundred and sixty days of the year
  • After the children were born anyways, Ra forced them to separate, he passed down his pharaoh ship to Osiris
  • Ra's secret name with Isis story
  • Ra is defeated during the Ten Great Plagues of Egypt
  • Atum separates from Ra during the End Times, Ra is then subsumed into Nun

Myth and Legends[]

Ra is a figure of worship from ancient Egyptian religion. The meaning of the word "Ra" is unknown, though it's theorized it means either "Sun" or "creator".

Quotes[]

Honestly, I still trust Set over any other of my grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially Isis. Her husband and son are nice people, but that goddess, she has more venom inside her than a pit full of vipers.
Ra.
Conflicting stories can be equally true. The sun is a ball of fire in space, yes. But its image you see as it crosses the sky, the life-giving warmth and light it brings to the earth—that was embodied by Ra. The sun was his throne, his source of power, his very spirit. But now Ra has retreated into the heavens. He sleeps, and the sun is just the sun. Ra’s boat no longer travels on its cycle through the Duat. He no longer lights the dark, and the dead feel his absence most keenly.
