Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. The second is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Jesus Christ, Mark 12:29-31

The Ten Commandments, also called the Torah (law), are the ten rules that Yaldabaoth and Nebro gave Moses and the Israelites for them to fulfill their part of their covenant with God.

Overview[]

Despite being called the Ten Commandments, In reality, the ten commandments are just the first ten commandments among six hundred and thirteen commandments given by God to His people. However, Christians believe that the Law was abolished by the sacrifice of Christ, and now people must follow in the footsteps of Christ rather than following the Law of Moses. Although this is a matter of debate between some Christians and the Messianic Jews.

The Commandments[]

  1. "You shall have no other gods before me." This commandment is against the worship of any god other than the One True God. All others are false gods, or even demons pretending to be gods.
  2. "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments." This command is against the making of idols, visible representations of God. There is no image that human beings can create that can accurately portray God. As God is prior to all things, it is impossible to represent him by anything, moreover, if God could be represented, it would mean a limitation to him. To make an idol represent God is to worship a false god.
  3. "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses His name." This command is against using the Holy Name of God in vain, the Horthodox Jews take this command to the letter, even speaking it or writing it for fear of blaspheming against the Blessed Name of God. However, the interpretation is that the commandment refers not only to pronouncing or writing the Name of God in vain, but to being a follower of God and not acting as such.
  4. "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy". This is a command to set aside the Sabbath as a day of rest dedicated to the Lord.
  5. "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the LORD your God is giving you." This is a command to always treat your parents with honor and respect.
  6. You shall not murder”. This is a very important commandment as it expresses God's view against taking another human being's life. God, being the author of life, is against taking away the most precious possession of any human being, which is his life.
  7. "You shall not commit adultery". This is a commandment against having sex with anyone other than your husband or wife.
  8. "You shall not steal". This is a command against taking away anything that does not belong to us without the permission of the one to whom it belongs.
  9. "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor." This is a command against witnessing against another person falsely. It is essentially a commandment against lying.
  10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor”. This is a command against desiring anything that does not belong to you. Greed can lead to the other prohibitions listed above: murder, adultery and theft. If it's wrong to do one thing, it's also wrong to want to do that same thing.
